Kilimanjaro Climbing Overview

  • The best time to climb Kilimanjaro is during the two dry seasons: January to March and June to October. These months offer the clearest skies, best trail conditions, and highest summit success rates. July, August, and September are peak season. January and February are excellent and quieter alternatives.

  • The Lemosho route (8 days) and Machame route (7 days) are our top recommendations for first-time climbers. Both offer excellent acclimatization profiles, beautiful scenery, and summit success rates above 85%. The Marangu route is cheaper but has a lower success rate due to its shorter duration.

  • No technical climbing experience is required. Kilimanjaro is a trekking mountain — it requires good physical fitness and mental determination, but no ropes, harnesses, or mountaineering skills. The Barranco Wall involves some basic scrambling, but your guide will lead you through it safely.

  • We strongly recommend a minimum of 7 days. Longer routes dramatically improve summit success — a 7-day climb averages ~85% success vs ~65% on a 5-day route. The 8-day Lemosho and 9-day Northern Circuit offer the best acclimatization and are well worth the extra days.

Costs & Booking

  • A complete Kilimanjaro package with Kili Treks Tanzania typically ranges from $2,500 to $3,500 per person for a 7-day climb, including park fees, guides, porters, meals, equipment, and transfers. Budget an additional $250–$350 for crew tips. Full cost breakdown available in our climbing cost guide.

  • Our packages include TANAPA park fees, professional certified guides, porters, mountain cook, camping equipment (tents, sleeping mats, dining tent, toilet tent), all meals on the mountain, airport transfers, and one night's hotel accommodation pre- and post-climb. Not included: flights, visa, personal gear, travel insurance, and crew tips.

  • Contact our team via the booking form, WhatsApp (+255 754 473 515), or email. Choose your preferred route and dates, we send a detailed quote, and you confirm with a deposit payment. We recommend booking 3–6 months in advance for peak season dates.

  • Both options are available. Group climbs are more affordable and depart on scheduled dates. Private treks depart on any date of your choosing and are ideal for solo travelers, couples, families, and corporate groups who prefer a dedicated crew and flexible pace.

Safety & Preparation

  • Our guides conduct daily health checks using pulse oximeters to monitor blood oxygen saturation. We carry emergency oxygen and full first aid kits on every climb. We follow proper acclimatization schedules and recommend longer routes. If a climber shows signs of serious AMS, our guides are trained and authorized to initiate a descent immediately.

  • Essential gear includes waterproof hiking boots (broken in before arrival), a 3-layer clothing system (base, mid, waterproof shell), a -10°C sleeping bag, trekking poles, headlamp, and warm summit gloves. View our complete Kilimanjaro packing list. Gear rental is available in Moshi.

  • Yes. All our lead guides are KINAPA-licensed, wilderness first-aid certified, and have completed hundreds of successful ascents. Our company was founded by Wilfred Moshi — the first Tanzanian to summit Everest — and safety standards reflect that level of high-altitude expertise.

  • Yes — comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory, not optional. Your policy must cover high-altitude trekking (above 5,000m), emergency helicopter evacuation, and medical treatment. Standard travel insurance without these additions is not sufficient for Kilimanjaro. We recommend arranging this before your trip departs.
